Before applying to be the editor of one or more Zenome categories, please take a few minutes to read the
following.
Editors Earn Ongoing Commissions!
Zenome is the first search tool of any kind to financially compensate editors for all of the important work
they do.
We believe that a community is built on appreciation and respect, and this is our small way of thanking our
editors for the important work they perform.
Editors receive Zenome Points based on a percentage of the net ad revenue generated by their Category, and a
percentage of Zenomes total net ad revenue. As such, it is beneficial for all editors to maintain their own
category, and to share resources to assist other editors.
We make every effort to distribute Zenome points on a regular schedule, but Zenome reserves the right to
adjust the distribution of Zenome points.
Zenome Points will be translated into U.S. dollars (USD), and whenever a minimum threshold of $5.00 (USD) is
reached the first commission bonus will be emailed to the editor. Subsequent commissions will be dispersed on a
bi-monthly basis.
We know that the commissions may not adequately reflect the time and dedication of editors, but it is a way of
giving back to our community. As Zenome improves and grows so should ad revenues, and by extension editors
commissions.
Applying to be an Editor
We welcome qualified applicants to be category editors. Before you apply you must become a member of Zenome, read
the Zenome Style Guide (available below), and index at least 5 page(s) in the category
to which you intend to apply. A Managing Editor will evaluate the application based on how accurately and appropriately
the Pages are indexed.
No applicant can be guaranteed a category.
Before applying to be an Editor please read the following guidelines carefully. This document forms a contract
between Zenome and its Editors.
Managing Editors
A Managing Editor is a Zenome staff member who is there to guide and help freelance editors.
Questions, comments, or feedback from editors should be directed to the Managing Editor.
Editor Requirements
We are building a digital library that is based on relevance, not popularity. As such, editors should be people
who have a demonstrated knowledge and interest in the category to which they are applying.
Editors must also be committed to maintaining the quality of their category.
The ability to understand, synthesize information, and grammar skills are basic requirements for all editors.
Applicants must mention any affiliation they have with any web Page(s) - please include the specific URL(s).
An affiliation will not prevent you from being approved, but not disclosing an affiliation is grounds for
revocation of editing privileges.
General Information
“Editors” are individuals who have applied and been accepted to edit specified Zenome Sub-Categories.
A Sub-Category is any category under the main categories listed on the Home Page.
A Bottom-Level Category (BLC) is one under which there is no other Sub-Category. This is also called a Child or
Sibling Category.
Individuals may apply to be the editor of numerous Zenome Sub-Categories.
Editors are selected at the discretion of Zenome.
When someone is selected as an editor they will be provided a password that gives them access to edit Pages in
their category / categories. Passwords cannot be shared.
Editors may have only one account - that is, only one Login Name and password. Multiple accounts are grounds
for immediate revocation of privileges.
Editors have access to their profile, which allows them to view the status of their category / categories at
any time.
Zenome users are encouraged to forward suggestions to category editors. Editors are expected to respond to
feedback in a timely manner.
The Editors primary responsibility is to ensure that web Pages have been comprehensively, and correctly
indexed in a timely manner.
If the ratio of unedited Pages to recommended Pages is too high editors privileges and access may be
revoked.
Zenome may attempt to warn an editor before their privileges are revoked, but is not obliged to do so.
Indexing And Editing Process
Any Zenome user may “Index” one or many Pages. Indexing a Page implies that a user has filled
out a comprehensive form to catalogue information about the Page.
Once a Page has been “Indexed” it is immediately placed in the most relevant “Unfiled”
category and it is forwarded to the appropriate editor on a regular basis.
If a recommended Page is appropriate for their category, it is the editors responsibility to verify the
information, make appropriate revisions, accurately index the Page, and post it in their category in a timely
manner.
If an editor determines that a Page is also suitable for another Zenome category it is their responsibility to
forward the indexing information of that Page to the appropriate category editor.
The Editors Forum exists to encourage the interchange of ideas relating to editing. Because commissions are
based partially on overall Zenome revenue it is to everyones benefit to share resources with one another
through the Editors Forum.
Abusing the Forum may result in the immediate revocation of privileges.
Maintaining a Category
It is the Editors responsibility to maintain their category /categories as effectively as possible.
Maintaining a category includes, but is not limited to:
Ensuring that “Indexed” URLs are verified in a reasonable timeframe.
Ensuring that the percentage of verified URLs in their categories are as high as possible.
Responding to Managing Editors, Zenome Administrators, and User feedback in a reasonable amount of
time.
Responding to queries that relate to their categories in a reasonable amount of time.
Ensuring that the ads in their categories are as relevant and timely as possible.
Ensuring that the ads in their categories do not actively undermine the related search results.
Ensuring that the ads in their categories are not offensive to the searchers, or do not misrepresent
the advertiser or sponsor.
Avoiding any apparent bias by the editor
Being a respectful member of the community
Once a Page has been edited it is considered “Verified”, and it will appear in the appropriate category with a
check mark beside it (v). This check denotes a higher level of credibility, and distinguishes it from other
search results.
Verified Pages will be available to users conducting a focused Advanced Search.
Editors categories will likely be sub-divided once Zenome determines there are too many URLs in that given
category.
When a Bottom-Level Category is sub-divided an existing Editor may apply to edit the new categories.
An Editors status may be revoked if s/he is not adequately maintaining their categories.
An Editors status may be revoked at the discretion of Zenome.
The information provided by the Editor in the editing process may be revised or deleted at the discretion of
Zenome.
Remember, the better the quality and timeliness of the editing the higher the commissions.
The dereliction of any of the commitments outlined above is grounds for the immediate revocation of editing
privileges and commissions. Commissions are terminated the day editing privileges are withdrawn.
Before committing to the application process you must read, understand, and agree to Zenomes “Terms of Service”,
available at the end of the process to “Join” the Zenome community.
